Presisjonslegeringer

Isabellenhütte may be better known to our customers as specialist manufacturer of low ohmic resistors and shunts, but this manufacturer has primarily been involved in manufacturing of copper and nickel based precision alloys for centuries. Well known within the electronic and electrical industry worldwide for their purity and quality, we are proud to be able to offer these alloys to the customers in the UK and Scandinavia, together with technical and commercial support.
As all alloys are molten from raw metals under strictly and continuously controlled conditions, Isabellenhütte are able to produce alloys in various forms and of tolerances and other properties specific to customers' requirements, often exceeding the datasheet values.

Our range includes:

  • Resistance alloys with excellent long-term stability for current measurement applications such as in resistors and sensors
  • Thermal alloys for temperature measurement applications such as thermocouple materials, use in thermoelectric and compensating leads etc.
  • Joining alloys for high-temperature soldering offering excellent surface quality
  • Heating conductor alloys for heat generating applications such as in heating cables and hoses (underfloor heating etc.)
  • Electrical conductivity: recently developed ISA-CON alloy offering combination of excelled electrical conductivity and mechanical strength ideal for electrical cables and fasteners used for electrical connections and terminations

For Rhopoint Components as a design-lead distributor, it has been especially exciting to work with a manufacturer who strives to be the market leader and continually works on developing new innovative alloys and improving the properties of the existing ones. Below are the current development activities for which Isabellenhütte are looking for pilot customers and applications. If any of these innovative technologies are of potential interest, please do not hesitate to contact us.

  • ISA-CON Electrical conductivity alloy is now commercially available, however other versions are still under development to allow for extended range of applications.
  • Thermoelectrics: Isabellenhütte are currently running an EU funded project on thermogenerator able to convert waste heat into electrical current, with possible applications in automotive industry, energy improvement of CHP plants and use of heat transfer in annealing and melting processes.
  • Powder metallurgy: the existing alloys are being atomised into the powder form for use in metal injection moulding, additive manufacturing and printing or application of layer of resistive material in thick and thin film technologies.

Isaohm®

Isaohm® is a Nickel-Chromium alloy (NiCr20AlSi) offering high resistivity, low temperature coefficient, low thermal EMF compared to Copper and high tensile strength. It is also resistant to oxidation and chemical corrosion, allowing the working temperature of up to +250°C for precision resistors/current measurement applications (when used for heat generation it can be used for much higher temperatures). Isaohm® is available in form of round wires from 0.01 to 0.6 mm2 which can be bare, oxidised or enamelled to the highest standard, stranded wires and flat wires.
As with all Isabellenhütte alloys, all manufacturing from the raw material is done at their German plant with state-of-the-art equipment and under continuous testing to achieve fully tracked manufacturing process. This allows Isabellenhütte to make slight adjustments in order to melt an alloy tailored to a customer's requirement, such as adjusting the resistivity by special heat treatment. Please see the datasheet in the Technical library, however, do not hesitate to contact us if what you require is not exactly matched.

  • Resistance alloy NiCr20AlSi
  • Low temperature coefficient of electrical resistance
  • Working temperature of up to +250°C when used for current measurement/resistor applications (higher is used for heat generation)
  • Low thermal EMF compared to Copper
  • Suitable for brazing, welding, can be soldered under certain conditions

Typical applications for Isaohm® include:

  • High value resistors
  • Potentiometers
  • Automotive industry
  • Consumer electronics
  • Heating cords and cables

Isotan®

Isotan® is a versatile Copper-Nickel alloy (CuNi44Mn1), low temperature coefficient and high resistance to oxidation and chemical corrosion. While it can be used for electrical resistors and potentiometers, it is not suitable for precision components due to its high EMF compared to Copper. Isotan® can be supplied in wide range of grades, qualities and versions depending on the application and customer's requirements (such as custom standardised temperature range). The most commonly it is used as a negative leg of thermocouple types J, L, T, U or E, extension and compensation leads. Isotan® is available in form of round wires from 0.03 to 10mm2 which can be bare or enamelled (between 0.05-1.5mm2), flat wire, ribbons or rods.

Please see the datasheet in the Technical library for outline guide of properties. When submitting an enquiry for Isotan®, please provide information about the application and/or any specific requirement for the alloy properties - this allows us to judge the best grade/version of Isotan® and offer the best possible price.

  • Thermoelectric/Resistance alloy CuNi44Mn1
  • Low temperature coefficient of electrical resistance
  • High resistance to oxidation and chemical corrosion
  • Available in variety of standardised temperature ranges and qualities
  • Easy to process - can be soldered, brazed and welded

Typical applications for Isotan® include:

  • Negative leg of thermocouple types J, L, T, U and E
  • Extension leads JNX, LNX, TNX, UNX and ENX

Manganin®

Manganin® is a Copper-Manganese-Nickel alloy (CuMn12Ni) invented by Isabellenhütte in 1889 and perfected over the years to excellent quality and long term stability of electrical resistance. It features a very low-temperature coefficient between +20°C and +50°C with a parabolic shape of the R(T) curve, extremely low EMF (vs. Copper), average specific resistance and good working properties. Manganin® is used by Isabellenhütte for their own components, particularly the ISA-WELD and ISA-PLAN resistors. It offers maximum working temperature in the air of +140°C, with higher thermal loads in a non-oxidising atmosphere available. Manganin® is available in form of round wires from 0.02 to 8.00 mm2 which can be bare or enamelled to the highest standard, stranded wires, flat wires, ribbons or rods.
As with all Isabellenhütte alloys, all manufacturing from the raw material is done at their German plant with state-of-the-art equipment and under continuous testing to achieve fully tracked manufacturing process. This allows Isabellenhütte to make slight adjustments in order to melt an alloy tailored to a customer's requirement. Please see the datasheet in the Technical library, however, do not hesitate to contact us if what you require is not exactly matched.

  • Resistance alloy CuMn12Ni
  • Industry-standard material for precision, standard and shunt resistors
